This week started with sad news. In one week three tigers were found dead. It happened in Indian state Maharashtra. The total tiger count in this state is a little over 300. The causes of death are still unknown. But possibilities of poaching and foul play have been ruled out. Tiger habitats are usually around Asia’s most important watering holes. Their presence protects water supplies in the region. Save the stripes: an apex predator like the tiger keeps the population of herbivores in check, and with this balancing the ecosystem. Thus, the presence of tigers in a forest is actually a good indicator of the health of the forest ecosystem.
