Forest guard dies in tiger attack in Corbett, third such death this year in reserve.
A forest guard died late on Sunday after being attacked by a tiger in the Plane range of Kalagarh division of Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR). This is the second tiger attack in the same range in the past few months.
Earlier, on July 15, a forest beat-watcher was mauled to death by a tiger. Incidentally, this is the third death of a forest frontline worker this year in Corbett.
Data provided by the forest department reveals that the reserve has lost more than a dozen forest officials in the past 19 years to such attacks.
Sad but true. In the Indian Corbett Tiger Reserve, the biggest in India with more than 250 tigers, a tiger has killed a forest guard.
There will be a thorough investigation on the matter, before deciding what to do with the tiger. One of the proposed actions is to radio collar the tiger so its behavior can be followed.
To be continued.
