A fourth tiger was found dead in Dudhwa Tiger Reserve (DTR). The 7-year old dead tigress was discovered on Tuesday afternoon. The state of Uttar Pradesh lost as many as 4 tigers in 45 days.
Three of the tiger deaths were reported from an area called Lakhimpur Kheri. The carcass of the tigress was found in Chaltua. She had injuries on her genitalia. It appeared she was unable to hunt.
The officials suspect it was a natural death. They await the post-mortem report. The autopsy of the fourth dead tiger is conducted by experts. This time it is a panel of the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) experts in Bareilly.
The field director, Sanjay Pathak, said that the tigress was spotted by a field staff on Monday. This was reported by The Times of India. “It looked sluggish and lay on the wetland for several hours,” he said. “Our staff kept an eye on it. We ensured that water was available nearby as she was dehydrated. We kept an eye on its movement throughout the night. It died sometime on Tuesday afternoon.”
