Authorities of the Biological Park (Itanagar Zoo) decided to close the wildlife park until further notice, following reports of animals getting infected with COVID-19 at the Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Chennai recently.

The COVID-19 outbreak was reported in the Asiatic lions at the Arignar Anna Zoological Park, popularly known as the Vandalur Zoo recently, while a 9-year-old lioness also died due to the disease.

An order issued by the Itanagar deputy conservator of forests (wildlife and biodiversity) on Tuesday said the latest instance of zoo animals getting infected by COVID-19 once again indicate that there is a high likelihood of the disease being transmitted among the captive animals from COVID-infected human beings.
