The International Tiger Day, known as Global Tiger Day, is celebrated every year on 29 July to raise awareness for tiger conservation. The goal of observance of the day is to promote the protection and expansion of the wild Tigers habitats and to gain support through awareness for tiger conservation.
World Tiger Day was established at Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit in Russia in 2010 to raise awareness about the decline of big cats’ numbers. A declaration was made that Governments of tiger populated countries had vowed to double the tiger population by 2020.
Several events every year are organised by animal organisations like WWF, IFAW and the Smithsonian Institute.
