Forest officers said the big cat may have been injured in a fight as its neck had a wound, besides quills of porcupine piercing through it. It is suspected to have died due to starvation. This is the fourth tiger death in Bandipur zone this year.
Forest officers saw the tiger, about nine years old, sleeping inside a bush near Maddur tank on Wednesday evening. They alerted their seniors and arranged food for the starving animal. Early Thursday, the officers returned to the spot to find the tiger in the same position. They waited for hours before throwing pebbles at the big cat to check if it was alive. The animal was dead.
